Who we are
The Mississippi Public Health Association was founded in 1937 to promote public and personal health in the State of Mississippi and to promote the professional development of public health workers. MPHA actively serves the public, its members, and the public health profession through its scientific and practice programs, publications, annual conference, educational services and advocacy efforts. MPHA is a leader in providing education, professional development and networking opportunities for public health professionals as well as serving as a voice for public health concerns through advocacy efforts.
Active members are people professionally engaged or with a serious interest in public health work. Current members include professionals from state and local government, non-profit organizations, the academic community, retirees, hospitals, and other professionals concerned with promoting and protecting the public health of Mississippi. Physicians, nurses, environmental health specialists, social workers, nutritionists, administrators, clerks, nurse aides, public health educators, epidemiologists, disease investigators, professors, students, and many others comprise the Association's membership base.
Our concerns
MPHA is an active Affiliate of the American Public Health Association (APHA), the oldest and largest organization of public health professionals in the world, representing more than 50,000 public health professionals. Much like APHA, the Mississippi Affiliate is concerned with a broad set of issues affecting personal and environmental health, including state and local funding for health programs, pollution control, programs and policies related to chronic and infectious diseases, a smoke-free society and professional education in public health.
