Benefits
The primary benefit to MPHA membership is the opportunity to meet and network with other public health professionals throughout the state and assure ongoing professional development. Specifically, MPHA provides:
- An Annual Conference, usually held in September, that brings together more than 400 professionals for educational and scientific sessions.
- Professional recognition is available through a nomination and awards process in which your peers recognize your achievements as well as your years of service.
- Continuing education is currently available for nurses, social workers, and nutritionists at the Annual Conference, with plans to expand to other professions and at additional educational sessions.
- Advocacy efforts have begun to support the goals and initiatives of the Mississippi State Department of Health as well as increased funding for public health programs throughout the state. Advocacy efforts are expanding to include e-mail alerts when important legislative action is expected to encourage membership to contact their Legislators and support public health.
- Networking may begin at the Annual Conference but extends throughout that year as members build on those relationships and discussions to assure best practices from one program, district, or organization are shared with other professionals.
