2011 Membership Drive
MPHA - Celebrating 75 Years of Public Health Service
This year MPHA celebrates its 75th Anniversary — its Diamond Anniversary! In celebration of our 75th year in existence, the Membership/Partnership Committee set a goal of 750 members for 2011 and is offering incentives as part of our Membership Drive for those who join MPHA or renew their existing membership before certain deadlines. The deadlines and awards are:
- May 5th – MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL: A renewing member is anyone who was a member during 2011. A prize of $50 will be given to one lucky member who renews their membership by May 5th.
- June 5th – NEW MEMBERS: A new member is anyone who was not a member during 2010. One lucky individual who joins MPHA for the first time by June 5th will be awarded a prize of $50.
- July 5th – ALL MEMBERS: All new and renewing members whose application is received by the deadline will have their name entered into a drawing for $75.
- August 5 – RECRUITING MEMBERS: Those individuals who joined MPHA in 2010 and renew in 2011 and who recruit new members for 2011 will be given an opportunity to win a cash prize of $75... For every new member you recruit, your name will be entered into the drawing. If you recruit 10 new members, then you will have 10 opportunities to win!!! Make sure your name is placed on the new member's application form showing that you recruited the new member.
The respective drawings will be conducted by members of the Executive Board, and individual winners will be notified. Submit completed applications to the address indicated on the form before the deadlines.
Membership/Partnership Committee
This year MPHA has taken a different approach to recruitment and has expanded the Membership/Partnership Committee to serve as ambassadors for the Association. Our primary focus will be in recruiting and retaining members, serving as liaisons to the field and to the executive committee, and providing ideas on how to grow membership. Your representatives are:
- Diane Hargrove, District I
- Ann Parker-May, District II
- Janet Boyles, District III
- Marilyn Whitaker, District IV
- Sandra Mangum, District V
- Katina Dixon, District VI
- Glory Newman, District VII
- Ora Franklin, District VIII
- Michael Cruthird, District IX
- David Brown and Ona Gibbs, Central Office
- Sebrenia Robinson, outside partnerships
- Rose Powers and Larry Rouse, retirees
We also plan to have various membership drives developed in the districts and central office at MSDH.
Membership is open to all public health professionals or anyone interested in public health. Actual membership in MPHA runs from January 1st through December 31st of each year so if you have not renewed since January NOW IS THE TIME to renew.
In order to continue to provide leadership, education, and advocacy in public health, we must have a strong and viable membership. We strongly encourage all of you to renew or join MPHA today and be a part of the progress we have made to have a stronger voice for public health.
Categories
MPHA offers five categories of membership: Active Members, Retired Members, Honorary Members, Sustaining Members, and Student Members. All categories of membership retain full voting privileges.
- Active Membership is open to people who are professionally engaged in or have a serious interest in public health work. The right to hold office, to serve on the Executive Board, or as Chair of a Section, or as Chair of a Standing Committee, is limited to these members.
- Retired Membership includes people who have retired from professional public health work.
- Honorary Membership is limited to those individuals who have shown distinguished interest in public health and is conferred only upon nomination and approval by the Executive Board.
- Sustaining Membership includes individuals, corporations, organizations or other similar entities interested in public health. Each corporation is entitled to four individual representatives per membership.
- Student Membership is limited to full-time students in graduate or undergraduate colleges or universities interested in public health.
