MPHA Announces APHA CoA 2024 Award Recipients
The Mississippi Public Health Association (MPHA) is pleased to announce that we have two members who will be receiving national awards at the upcoming American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Conference during the Council of Affiliates luncheon on October 26, 2024, in Minneapolis, MN. The two award recipients are Dr. Tanya Funchess and Dr. Kina White.
The JPHDS Releases Special Issue on Healthy Aging
The Mississippi Public Health Association (MPHA) is pleased to announce the publication of a special issue of the Journal of Public Health in the Deep South (JPHDS) focused on healthy aging. Guest co-editors for this special issue are Kina White, DrPH, MHSA, FACHE, Director of Community Health Improvement, MS State Department of Health and State Lead for Age-Friendly Mississippi and Kimberly C. (Kim) Tarver, MD, Division Chief, Geriatrics and Director of Clinical Services for the MIND Center, University of MS Medical Center.
This issue contains commentaries, research articles, and case studies related to various aspects of healthy aging. MPHA, in partnership with Mississippi State University (MSU), initiated the JPHDS in 2018. The JPHDS is a peer-reviewed, open-access, online journal focused on disseminating high-quality research and/or effective applied techniques to academicians, educators, and practitioners. The JPHDS is the first publication to specifically focus on public health issues in this geographical space and with an appeal to both research and applied public health professionals and educators with emphases on research, practice, and teaching. The JPHDS is the official journal of MPHA and is hosted by MSU. The Editorial Board of the JPHDS is co-chaired by David Buys, PhD, MSPH, CPH, FGSA, Associate Vice Provost, Health Sciences, Interim Head of Campus, Meridian, and Associate Professor, Biochemistry, Nutrition, and Health Promotion, MSU, and Lei Zhang, PhD, MBA, Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship, School of Nursing, University of MS Medical Center. The journal’s editorial consultant is Katie Poe.
